The World Coal Association (WCA) today announced that it has signed on to the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest and most widely embraced corporate citizenship initiative. With this action, WCA joins thousands of participants globally, and confirms WCA’s commitment to sustainable development.
"We are delighted to become a signatory to the UN Global Compact. This is a great initiative which encourages organisations to act responsibly and keep their commitments to society,” said CEO Benjamin Sporton.
“We are committed to making the Global Compact and its principles part of the strategy and culture of our organisation, and to engage in projects which advance the broader development goals of the United Nations,” Mr Sporton added.
Launched in 2000, The Global Compact is the world’s largest global corporate sustainability initiative, with over 8000 companies and 4000 non-business participants based in more than 160 countries. The initiative is a call to companies and organisations everywhere to voluntarily align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
