Peabody Energy launches campaign to tackle global energy poverty

26th Feb 2014

Peabody Energy today launched a global advocacy programme focusing on building awareness and support to eliminate global energy poverty, increase access to affordable energy and reduce GHG emissions through the use of clean coal technologies.

The Advanced Energy for Life campaign will work towards influencing a wide range of institutions and multi-national stakeholders to drive policy and support actions to increase access to reliable, low-cost energy provided by coal.

Half of the world's population - 3.5 billion people - still live without adequate access to energy. More than 4 million people die each year from the effects of energy poverty. Coal is the most abundant source of energy and the fastest growing, giving it a fundamental role in tackling global energy poverty.
