Global electricity mix

12th Jan 2018

The International Energy Agency (IEA) published its annual review of the global energy system, the World Energy Outlook (WEO), in November 2017.

According to WEO 2017, global electricity from coal is expected to grow by 8.6%[1] to 2040 even as its overall share decreases relative to other fuels.

While coal currently supplies 37% of total global electricity, in 2040 it will still be the largest single source of electricity generation at 26%
