Over the last few years, the World Coal Institute has held a number of workshops, each focusing on key issues impacting the global coal industry. Details on the most recent events are below.
WCI Roundtable 'Beyond Copenhagen - Coal's Role in a Low Carbon World'
Brussels, Tuesday 10 November 2009
With the UNFCCC's Copenhagen conference only four weeks away, WCI hosted a policy roundtable in Brussels to consider what is expected at COP-15, to discuss the future of coal in Europe and to look beyond the Kyoto Protocol. "Beyond Copenhagen - Coal's Role in a Low Carbon World" brought together WCI members, EURACOAL members, industry stakeholders, NGO's and key figures from the European Commission and European Parliament.

Climate Change & Coal: US Actions & Opportunities
WCI Roundtable, Washington DC, 23 June 2009
The Roundtable brought together key players within the US energy and environment field with World Coal Institute Board Members and invited guests to discuss the challenge of reconciling continued coal use with energy and climate change objectives.

Financing Carbon Capture & Storage

WCI, IEA CCC and IEA GHG hosted the two-day “2nd Expert Meeting on Financing CCS” in New York in 2008. The workshop aimed to increase the involvement of experts from the financial sector in CCS and to discuss financial Instruments with industry and government representatives to identify, encourage and develop worldwide collaboration and practical development of financial mechanisms to accelerate the development of CCS projects.
Presentations were given by representatives from the US Department of Energy, World Resources Institute, Electric Power Research Institute, and European Commission, amongst others.

WCI Side Events at UNFCCC meetings in Bali
December 2007
WCI hosted a side event at the climate change negotiations in Bali in December 2007 and was also involved in the inter-association side event ‘Business Perspectives on CO2 Capture and Geological Storage: Enabling Widespread Application’. Click here for more details about this event.
