New CCS Map

Ecoal December 2009, Volume 69

The WCI launched its new website earlier this year which featured a number of new resources, including an interactive map of CCS projects worldwide.

To keep the map as accurate and up-to-date as possible, the WCI has partnered with the Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC). CO2CRC is one of the world's leading collaborative research organisations focused on CO2 capture and geological storage.

The aim of the map is to give a realistic overview of where we are with CCS. While a plethora of projects have been announced worldwide, the map only includes projects that are:

  • Commercial/industrial scale CCS projects that are operational
  • Commercial/industrial scale CCS projects that are in planning
  • Research projects that are operational

CO2CRC is a not-for-profit joint venture comprising participants from Australian and global industry, universities and other Australian, New Zealand and international research bodies, and Australian Commonwealth, State and international government agencies. Its resources come from the Federal Government's Cooperative Research Centres Program, other Federal and State Government programmes, CO2CRC participants and wider industry.

The WCI is pleased to be partnering with such a respected body on this project and looks forward to the map being an invaluable resource to anyone interested in CCS activity worldwide.
